about

Electro Funk Samba is the first EP of San Francisco-based producer Loïc Maestracci a.k.a. Iguazúl. The music combines electronic, funk, disco with Brazilian and latin rhythms into a retro-modern blend. Drawing inspiration from travel and influenced by world cities with strong music heritage such as Rio, Paris, London, New Orleans Los Angeles. His style blends electric pianos, electronic synths, drum machines with organic and live percussions.

Iguazúl first made a name for himself while collaborating with other producers in Los Angeles and having remixed songs by Santana, Jamiroquai and Gilberto Gil.

Electro Funk Samba was born 5 years ago in Los Angeles after Loïc spent several months traveling across South America. Aniversario do David was composed in March 2011, a few hours before heading to his friend’s birthday in Downtown Los Angeles. The pure and minimalist Karena was composed in 2013 to honor his recent engagement and Woman celebrates one year later. Celebraçao Sim Fim was inspired by the 2014 World Cup opening ceremony and incorporates samples from live TV broadcast. Friday A.M. was the last track composed for the EP.

As the founder of Music Expo SF, a San Francisco Bay Area music conference with the aim to encourage local artists to complete their creative work. Having himself a long list of unfinished material, he rigorously applied this principle to finish his first EP Electro Funk Samba.

“Music is something that does tie us all together. Whether you are making it or you love music. Music for me is my best friend, my therapist. My entire life is music. I made music back in 1988 when it just started to be possible to make music all by yourself with the computer.”

Tracks echo the work of artists such as Bossacucanova, Todd Terje, Grooveria or even Jamiroquai and Chic.

This first EP was self-produced with help from other San Francisco Bay Area artists Lavender and StevieD.
